The contact owns a 2023 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving from a stationary position, the vehicle switched to safe mode and suddenly decelerated, and would not accelerate above 20 - 27 MPH. During the failure, the message "Limited to 20 MPH" was displayed. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not yet notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 1,789.
ODI #11522456 • Incident Date: 05/01/2023
Purchased car in January 2033. I noticed the radio failed to work so I took it in to the closest dealership on May 10th. Dealership said there was a problem with the navigation system and the car needed a software update. Also advised, the update would repair some other electrical and system issues as well. Was told on 5/17 update would not be available until the end of May and that my carcshould not be driven so I should maintain the rental they provided. Lsstly, I have noticed some performance issues with shifting and speed as well. I thought update might fix, but after reading other complaints I will be reporting it to the dealership as well.
ODI #11548117 • Incident Date: 07/21/2023
When I push the brake and push start button at the same time to start the vehicle, it will appear as if it is fully started. It is not until I put the vehicle in reverse that I notice the vehicle is not fully started. This happens on cold or hot starts and anytime of the day sometimes multiple times a day. The battery, malfunction indicator light, immobilizer, and engine oil pressure lights/lamps are on.The service department advisor did say my vehicle replicated but the vehicle was not hooked up to reader at the time. After that no service technician has been able to reproduce the problem. The vehicle has been to the dealership on 3 different occasions and I have provided them with a video.
ODI #11614168 • Incident Date: 08/21/2024
The horn stopped working. I’m told by Hyundai service technician this is fairly common issue due to the location of the horns they are susceptible to “shorting out”
ODI #11656675 • Incident Date: 04/24/2025
Approximately 2-3 months ago, the horn had failed. This was reported to the dealer and covered under warranty. During the service the dealer advised that this issue was due to a faulty electrical contact and was a “known issue with the supplier of the horn”. Because of this, Hyundai extended the warranty period on the horn. Now, the horn had failed a second time and was discovered during a safety hazard in which I needed to alert another driver. This had the potential to cause serious injury but was avoided.

Sample 2023 HYUNDAI TUCSON Owner Complaints (FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE)

ODI #11499276 • Incident Date: 11/08/2022
Twice in the past two months, I have been driving down the highway going 70 mph with no car in close proximity to the front of me and the automatic emergency braking has activated, suddenly braking for no reason. In the first instance, there was a car in the lane to the left of me, and the second time cars on both sides of me. But in neither instance was a vehicle close to them front of my vehicle. The second time the car felt like it was going into a skid when the braking activated. I took the car to the dealer (Irwin Hyundai) the first time and they told me the sensors on the car were not properly calibrated when the new car was delivered to me. When I called Irwin’s today after it happened a second time, I was told the car was “functioning as designed” but they would look at it. I am scared to drive the car at this point given that the brakes randomly were activated while at high speeds and without any basis for activation.
ODI #11522823 • Incident Date: 05/18/2023
The contact owns a 2023 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated while driving at various speeds on several occasions, the Forward Collision Avoidance: Automatic Emergency Braking system activated unintendedly. The contact stated that on several occasions there were no vehicles nearby. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 2,500.
ODI #11546592 • Incident Date: 09/15/2023
The contact owns a 2023 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated while driving at 55 MPH with the cruise control activated, the Forward Collision Avoidance Warning system activated, and the vehicle inadvertently applied the automatic braking before releasing. The contact stated no other vehicles or objects were nearby. The Forward Collision Avoidance warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000.
ODI #11565645 • Incident Date: 01/09/2024
Forward collision alert came on and brakes initiated while I was behind a car that was turning into a driveway. The car in front of me was almost all the way into the driveway. After that I drove approximately 200 feet and the collision alert warning came on, no vehicles were around me. The next day, as I was driving, a car was waiting to exit an apartment driveway, the collision alert came on. No reason for it. I took my car in to Hyundai on January 9, to have the oil changed and check the forward collision alert system. They told me they checked it, and could not find anything wrong, and recalibrated the system, and hoped that took care of it.
ODI #11573456 • Incident Date: 01/31/2024
The contact owns a 2023 Honda Tucson. The contact stated while driving 74 MPH with the cruise control activated, the Forward Collision Avoidance system activated, after which the Automatic Emergency Braking activated, causing a rapid deceleration to the vehicle. The contact was able to regain control of the vehicle by lightly tapping the brake pedal, deactivating the system. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure but informed the contact that they would disable the Forward Collision Avoidance system pending a diagnosis. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 13,000.

Lsstly, I have noticed some performance issues with shifting and speed as well. I thought update might fix, but after reading other complaints I will be reporting it to the dealership as well.

Sample 2023 HYUNDAI TUCSON Owner Complaints (STEERING)

ODI #11527826 • Incident Date: 06/12/2023
Power steering failed DURING vehicle operation while car was moving at speed. Steering wheel became excessively difficult to turn, severely limiting control of the vehicle and rendering the vehicle undriveable. Vehicle displayed DTC codes C168886 and C241396. These codes appear to be indicative of a failure of one or all of the power steering system wiring, motor, and electronic control unit.
ODI #11685540 • Incident Date: 06/29/2025
On [XXX], while driving a 2023 Hyundai TUCSON SEL, the steering wheel suddenly and completely detached from the steering column and ended up in the driver's lap. This sudden and absolute loss of steering control is a catastrophic failure of a primary safety system that placed the driver's life and potentially the lives of others in immediate and extreme peril. It was only due to sheer luck that the vehicle was brought to a stop without an accident or injury. Following the incident, due to fear and anxiety, the driver is now in treatment and has been unable to work. The vehicle was transported to Ron Marhofer Hyundai on the same day. The following day, the driver was met with a profound lack of respect and professionalism from the service advisor, Declan McCready. The driver and her mother were implicitly told they did not know what they were talking about and were treated with a profound lack of respect. The service advisor initially asserted there was no warranty coverage for the issue and that it would cost nearly $500.00 to fix. He also claimed his entire shop of mechanics looked at the car and found nothing was broken. However, the very next day, the dealership abruptly reversed their diagnosis and instructed the driver to get a rental car, stating they would now be fixing the vehicle under warranty. The repair order confirms the technician's findings: "verified concern steering column separated stopped bracket bent and separated replaced column housing operating normal". The vehicle had 14,479 miles at the time of the failure. There were no prior warnings or symptoms before the incident. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
ODI #11699527 • Incident Date: 11/01/2025
When I turn the wheel I get a grinding sound inside vehicle not outside of it.
ODI #11731406 • Incident Date: 04/11/2026
While driving on April 11, 2026 at approximately 1:30 PM on [XXX] , the vehicle experienced a loss of steering response while the roadway curved to the right. The driver turned the steering wheel normally in order to follow the curve. The steering wheel moved freely and felt normal. However, the vehicle did not respond to the steering input and instead continued traveling straight. As a result, the vehicle struck the curb on the driver’s side. The impact with the curb slightly redirected the vehicle, but steering response was not restored. The driver continued attempting to steer the vehicle, and although the steering wheel continued to turn normally, the vehicle did not change direction. The vehicle did not appear to lose traction and was not described as sliding. Instead, it failed to respond to steering input. There were no warning indicators, messages, or prior signs of a problem before the incident. The driver was able to bring the vehicle to a stop in a nearby turn area and arranged for it to be towed. After the incident, the vehicle was taken to a Hyundai dealership for inspection. The dealership reported no diagnostic codes and did not identify any issue with the steering system. No corrective action has been taken. 1)Steering system malfunction (column, shaft, rack, and/or EPS). Steering input was not transmitted to vehicle direction. Vehicle available for inspection. 2)Loss of steering control caused curb impact and risk of collision with vehicles, pedestrians, or objects. Could have resulted in serious injury at higher speed or in traffic. 3)No. Dealer could not reproduce. 4)Inspected by Hyundai dealer. No steering-related codes found. No cause identified. No repair performed. Hyundai Consumer Affairs case opened. 5)No warning lights or prior symptoms. Failure was sudden and without warning. Sample 2023 HYUNDAI TUCSON Owner Complaints (AIR BAGS)

ODI #11643749 • Incident Date: 11/24/2024 [CRASH]
I was driving straight when a vehicle coming from the opposite direction made a left turn without yielding, crossing into my lane. As a result, my vehicle collided with the other car at full speed. However, the airbag in my steering wheel did not deploy upon impact, as it should have. My injuries have been significantly more severe than they would have been had the airbag functioned properly. I reported this issue to the vehicle manufacturer, and they opened a case and conducted an inspection. During their inspection, they found that the airbag had since deployed. However, my vehicle was transported off a steep hill and moved to multiple lots before the inspection, any of which could have triggered a delayed deployment. Despite this, the manufacturer has refused to accept liability. Because the airbag failed to deploy at the time of impact, there was no buffer between me and the steering wheel. This resulted in excessive force against my chest from the seatbelt and direct impact with the steering wheel, leading to more severe injuries. There were no warning lights on in the vehicle before the crash, nor were there any recalls related to this issue at the time of the incident.

While on the road, the sunroof just shattered completely. In this instance, nobody was hurt as the cover below the sunroof was open and that caught all the glass pieces. The car is hardly 2 year old and warranty covered the repairs. The complaint is that Hyundai never gave a clear answer as to why this happened and what can be done to prevent it. There is no consideration of the passengers getting hurt and startled by this incident. Also no consideration for the time it took for the repairs, the dealership never gave a loaner and we didn’t know we could rent it and Hyundai would reimburse. I feel Hyundai cannot just say sorry and move on as there has to be a reason for this and we pay extra for having a sunroof. I am not satisfied with Hyundai’s method of dealing with customers who suffered bear of their own manufacturing.
