Important Notice Regarding Recall Gaps & Dealership Goodwill Requests

Statutory vs. Discretionary Remedies: Because your vehicle model year is currently excluded from official NHTSA campaign 11V582000, authorized dealerships are not legally mandated under federal law (49 U.S.C. Section 30120) to perform free recall repairs on your vehicle.

Discretionary Goodwill Policies: The Goodwill Reference Packet generated below compiles public NHTSA safety records to assist you in requesting a voluntary, discretionary warranty adjustment from your dealership service director or manufacturer customer care division. Goodwill assistance is not an entitlement, is not guaranteed, and is granted solely at the discretion of the manufacturer and dealership based on vehicle age, mileage, and brand loyalty.

Adjacent Recall Summary (11V582000): FORD IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 F-150 VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM SEPTEMBER 9, 2011, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 22, 2011, AND MODEL YEAR 2012 F-250, F-350, F-450 AND F-550 HEAVY DUTY VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM SEPTEMBER 12, 2011, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 22, 2011. THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NUMBER 114, “THEFT PROTECTION.” THE TRANSMISSION CAN BE SHIFTED OUT OF THE PARK POSITION WITHOUT PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL DUE TO BRAKE SHIFT INTERLOCK SWITCH PROBLEM.

Safety Consequence: THIS WILL ALLOW THE OPERATOR TO INADVERTENTLY SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO GEAR WITHOUT THE BRAKE PEDAL BEING DEPRESSED, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH OR INJURY TO A NEARBY PEDESTRIAN.

Manufacturer Remedy on 2011: FORD WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE BRAKE SHIFT INTERLOCK SWITCH FUNCTION AND REPLACE THE SWITCH IF NECESSARY, FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 22, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP CENTER AT 1-866-436-7332.

Adjacent Recall Summary (12V190000): FORD IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011-2012 FORD F-150, 2012 EXPEDITION AND LINCOLN NAVIGATOR, AND 2012-2013 MUSTANG VEHICLES, FOR FAILING TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NOS. 102, "TRANSMISSION SHIFT LEVER SEQUENCE, STARTER INTERLOCK, AND TRANSMISSION BRAKING EFFECT" AND 108 “LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT.” THESE VEHICLES MAY HAVE A TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR (TRS) THAT WAS CALIBRATED OUT OF SPECIFICATION FOR REVERSE GEAR.

Safety Consequence: IF THIS CONDITION EXISTS, THE TRANSMISSION MAY NOT GO INTO REVERSE OR WHEN THE DRIVER PUSHES THE SHIFT LEVER IN THE REVERSE “R” POSITION AND THE VEHICLE’S TRANSMISSION DOES GO IN REVERSE, THE “R” MAY NOT ILLUMINATE ON THE DASHBOARD OF THE F-150, EXPEDITION, OR NAVIGATOR MODELS AND/OR THE BACKUP LAMP ON THE REAR OF THE F-150, EXPEDITION, NAVIGATOR, OR MUSTANG VEHICLES MAY NOT ILLUMINATE. THESE CONDITIONS INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH OR A PEDESTRIAN BEING STRUCK DUE TO THE VEHICLE’S NOT SIGNALING IT IS IN REVERSE.

Manufacturer Remedy on 2011: FORD WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE THE TRS AS NECESSARY, FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 11, 2012. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FORD MOTOR COMPANY CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP CENTER AT 1-866-436-7332.

THESE VEHICLES WERE INSPECTED USING INTEGRATED DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM (IDS) THAT HAD A CUSTOM SOFTWARE ROUTINE TO READ THE SUSPECT BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) SERIAL NUMBER. BASED ON THE SERIAL NUMBER THE BCM WAS EITHER NOT AFFECTED OR REPLACED. THE CUSTOM SOFTWARE ROUTINE WAS NOT READING THE CORRECT SET OF CHARACTERS, AND WAS NOT ABLE TO IDENTIFY A BCM THAT REQUIRED REPLACEMENT AFFECTED BCMS MAY HAVE THE POTENTIAL FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT.

Safety Consequence: IF AN ELECTRICAL SHORT DEVELOPS, AN OVERHEATING CONDITION MAY OCCUR WHICH COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE FIRE.

ODI #11448763 • Incident Date: 01/17/2022
Same old fuse issue, with only 56,000 miles. Ford is aware, they have a kit to by pass the problem, how ever they will not pay for repair (no recall). Cost almost $500.00 to fix their poor design issue. Buyers beware.
ODI #11433809 • Incident Date: 09/21/2021
Fuel pump fuse failed. Known issue under TSB-15-0137. Failure of the fuel pump at speed can result in a dangerous situation. I feel this should be covered under recall as the attached picture clearly shows an electrical overload condition.
ODI #11351627 • Incident Date: 08/24/2020
VEHICLE DIED WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREET. ENGINE WOULD TURN OVER BUT NOT FIRE. HAD TO BE TOWED TO FORD DEALER AT COST OF $90. WAS ADVISED BY DEALER SERVICE THAT THE PROBLEM WAS FUSE 27 MELTED AND DAMAGED THE FUSE BOX. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR F-150 VEHICLES FOR YEARS 2009 - 2014. TSB 15-0137 WAS ISSUED IN SEPTEMBER OF 2015 BUT NO RECALL WAS ISSUED. COST TO REPAIR WAS $466 OUT OF MY POCKET. FOR A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH SIX MODEL YEARS THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL. JUST GLAD I WAS NOT ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THIS HAPPENED.
ODI #11289174 • Incident Date: 12/14/2019 [FIRE]
PASSENGER SIDE FRONT SEAT CAUGHT ON FIRE FROM THE SEAT HEATER. KEPT SMELL A BURNING SMELL AND COULD NOT DETERMINE THE SOURCE. PARKED THE TRUCK AND LOOKED OUTS DE ABOUT AN HOUR LATER. SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE CAB. OPENED THE DOOR AND SAW SEAT ON FIRE. YOU ASSENGER USED THE SEAT HEATER PRIOR. NO ONE SMOKES IN MY FAMILY SO THERE WAS NO OTHER HEAT SOURCE.
ODI #11208286 • Incident Date: 05/08/2019
DRIVING ON A CITY STREET WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY SHUT DOWN AND QUIT RUNNING. I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED BY A SEMI TRUCK AND ONLY AVOIDED A MAJOR ACCIDENT BECAUSE I HAD ROOM TO GO TO THE RIGHT AND THE SEMI HAD ROOM TO SWERVE AROUND ME ON THE LEFT. WHEN I HAD IT TOWED TO THE FORD DEALER THEY INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS A MELTED FUSE BUT THAT THEY WERE ALREADY AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND HAD A "FIX" KIT IN STOCK AND THE REPAIR PROCESS ALREADY DOCUMENTED TO REROUTE THAT FUSE. THIS MEANS THAT FORD IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND I PRESUME WAS JUST WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO DIE BEFORE ISSUING A RECALL.I HAVE THE REPAIR ORDER AVAILABLE IF NEEDED. WHEN I CONTACTED FORD DIRECTLY THEY INFORMED ME THERE WAS NO RECALL AND THEREFORE I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ENTIRE $650.00 COST AND DID NOT SEEM TO CARE ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF A MAJOR ACCIDENT WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STOPS RUNNING.

ON OR ABOUT AUG & 2013 THE VEHICLE MENTION ABOVE WOULD START AND THEN STALL . I TOOK THE FORD F150 TO PALM BAY FORD IN PALM BAY FL. I WAS VISITING MY STEPSON AT THE TIME. I AM FORM GA. THE FORD DEALER HAD IT FOR 3 DAYS AND SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. ON FEB 7 2014 THE SAME THING HAPPEN. THIS TIME THEY TOWED THE FORD TO THERE PLACE FROM MY STEPSONS HOME. THEY HAD THE VEHICLE FOR 3 DAYS. AND FINALLY SAID THAT THE FUEL PUMP DRIVER MODULE HAD FAILED. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THEY WOULD NOT KNOW THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPEN. THEY CHARGED ME 652.09 FOR THE REPAIR. I KNOW THAT I AM NOT THE FIRST PERSON THIS HAS HAPPEN TO. WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPEN IF THIS MODULE FAILED WHEN I WAS ON INTERSTATE 95. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED AND ACCIDENT OR WORSE. FORD SHOULD RECALL THIS DEVICE BECAUSE OF THE FAILURE OF THE MODULE AND WHERE IS PLACED(UNDER THE SPARE TIRE) AND THE TWO DIFFERENT METALS THAT CAUSE CORROSION. *TR
ODI #10561037 • Incident Date: 04/02/2012
FIRST, THE FUEL DOOR FELL OFF THE TRUCK. LATER THAT EVENING I HEARD A WEIRD SUCTION SOUND COMING FROM THE FUEL DOOR AREA. IT BEGAN TO IDLE ROUGH, THEN WOULD NOT WANT TO START AFTER FILL UPS. WHEN YOU WOULD STICK THE GAS NOZZLE IN THE TANK A LOUD "WHOOSH" SOUND WOULD EMIT AS IT RELIEVED PRESSURE. MY GAS GAUGE STOPPED FUNCTIONING AND ALL OF THESE ISSUES EVENTUALLY LEADING TO THE TANK IMPLODING/COLLAPSING ON ITSELF. THIS BENT THE FUEL PUMP AND GAS GAUGE INSIDE THE TANK. I PAID OUT OF POCKET TO HAVE IT FIXED BECAUSE THE FORD DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THE WARRANTY ONLY "COVERED MOVING PARTS". I ASKED IF THE FUEL GAUGE FLOAT AND FUEL PUMP MOVED. THEY ENJOYED MY RHETORIC, BUT DECLINED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY ONLY REPLACED A SENSOR THAT THREW A LEAN BANK ONE CODE AND CAUSED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON. I DROVE IT FOR THE NEXT YEAR OR SO USING THE ODOMETER TO TELL ME WHEN TO FILL UP AS MY GAS GAUGE NO LONGER WORKED.. FAST FORWARD A YEAR AND A HALF, AND RUNNING OUT OF GAS 3 OR 4 TIMES, AND IT HAS DONE THE SAME THING TO ME AGAIN. I JUST PAID $972.19 TO A PRIVATE GARAGE TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP, BUT I ONLY GOT A 90 DAY WARRANTY ON THE WORK AND NO GUARANTEE THAT THIS ISSUE WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. WHEN I GOOGLED THE MAKE AND MODEL OF THE TRUCK I FOUND ALL KINDS OF INFORMATION ABOUT PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, YET FORD ACTED LIKE THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS BEFORE. I UNDERSTAND I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR KEEPING THE TRUCK RUNNING, BUT NOTHING ABOUT THE WAY I OPERATE THE VEHICLE MADE IT DO THIS. IF I GET IN A WRECK, I SHOULD PAY TO FIX IT. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. BTW I WAS DOING 70 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN IT SHUT DOWN MOST RECENTLY AND TRAFFIC HAD ME BOXED IN. IT NEARLY CAUSED A COLLISION JUST GETTING IT OFF THE ROAD. HAD I DIED, NO ONE WOULD HAVE QUESTIONED WHAT CAUSED THE ACCIDENT. *TR

ODI #10418114 • Incident Date: 08/08/2001
I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE 30 EAST BOUND JUST EAST OF DOWNTOWN FORT WORTH TRAVELING AT 55 MPH IN MY 2009 F 150. I BEGAN ACCELERATING TO OVERTAKE A SLOWER VEHICLE. THE THROTTLE STUCK AT WHAT SEEM TO BE A WIDE OPEN POSITION, I HAD PASSED THE CAR AND LET OFF THE GAS AND PRESSED THE BRAKE 3 TIMES BEFORE FOR THE TRUCK STOPPED ACCELERATING AND I HAD REACHED A SPEED OF 95 MPH BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO GET THE TRUCK BACK UNDER CONTROL. IT SEEMED LIKE THE THROTTLE WAS STUCK FOR AROUND 10 SECONDS, WHICH WAS A VERY SCARY 10 SECONDS. I JUST FINISHED READING A FEW FORUMS WHERE THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS THE RUBBER FLOOR MATS THAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM. WELL I HAVE NOT PUT FLOOR MATS IN MY TRUCK SO THAT WAS DEFIANTLY NOT THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. *TR
