Important Notice Regarding Recall Gaps & Dealership Goodwill Requests

Statutory vs. Discretionary Remedies: Because your vehicle model year is currently excluded from official NHTSA campaign 05V520000, authorized dealerships are not legally mandated under federal law (49 U.S.C. Section 30120) to perform free recall repairs on your vehicle.

Discretionary Goodwill Policies: The Goodwill Reference Packet generated below compiles public NHTSA safety records to assist you in requesting a voluntary, discretionary warranty adjustment from your dealership service director or manufacturer customer care division. Goodwill assistance is not an entitlement, is not guaranteed, and is granted solely at the discretion of the manufacturer and dealership based on vehicle age, mileage, and brand loyalty.

Adjacent Recall Summary (05V520000): ON CERTAIN TRUCKS, PASSENGER CARS AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR MAY HAVE BEEN PRODUCED WITHOUT GREASE BEING APPLIED TO THE OUTPUT SHAFT GEAR.

Safety Consequence: AFTER A PERIOD OF CONTINUOUS USE ON THE HIGH SPEED SETTING, LACK OF GREASE ON THE OUTPUT SHAFT GEAR MAY CAUSE THE GEAR TO DISTORT OR FRACTURE DURING OPERATION RESULTING IN A LOSS OF WIPER FUNCTION. INOPERATIVE WIPERS UNDER INCLEMENT WEATHER CONDITIONS COULD CAUSE A CRASH DUE TO IMPAIRED VISIBILITY.

Manufacturer Remedy on 2006: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE WIPER MOTOR FOR THE PRESENCE OF GREASE AND GREASE THE WIPER MOTOR GEARS IF NECESSARY. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 22, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FORD AT 1-800-392-3673 OR LINCOLN/MERCURY AT 1-800-521-4140.

IN MID NOVEMBER 2019, I WAS ENTERING MY VEHICLE AND NOTICED THE REAR CENTER GLASS WINDOW COMPLETELY SHATTERED THE MOMENT I OPEN THE TRUCK DOOR FOR NO REASON. NO INDICATION OF AN OBJECT STRIKING OR ANYTHING. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY STATIONARY IN MY DRIVEWAY. THE TEMPERATURE HAD DROPPED DOWN PAST 20 DEGREES THE DAY THIS HAPPENED. I REPLACED THE ENTIRE REAR WINDOW AND THEN,NOT EVEN A WEEK LATER, THE REAR RIGHT SIDE OF THE WINDOW IS COMPLETELY SHATTERING AND IS ABOUT TO BREAK....THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN! NOW, I GO OUT TODAY, 12/12/19 TO MY PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WINDOW COMPLETELY SHATTERED FOR NO APPARENT REASON! IN ALL 3 INSTANCES, THE TEMPERATURE DROPPED BELOW 35 DEGREES. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT'S GOING ON AND IT'S DRIVING ME INSANE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHY THE WINDOWS ARE RANDOMLY SHATTERING WHEN THE TEMPERATURE DROPS. THE BRAKE BOOSTER VACUUM SUPPLY HOSE ATTACHED TO THE INTAKE MANIFOLD FITTING MAY SWELL OVER TIME AND LOSE RETENTION FORCE. THIS CONDITION COULD ALLOW THE HOSE TO BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FITTING DURING AN INTAKE MANIFOLD BACKFIRE. SHOULD THE HOSE DETACH FROM THE INTAKE MANIFOLD, SEVERAL BRAKE APPLICATIONS WITH POWER ASSIST WILL BE AVAILABLE BEFORE THE VACUUM RESERVE IS DEPLETED.

Safety Consequence: ONCE THE BRAKE BOOSTER VACUUM RESERVE IS DEPLETED, THE DRIVER WILL HAVE FOUNDATION BRAKE FUNCTION, BUT WITH INCREASED BRAKE PEDAL EFFORT. REDUCED VEHICLE BRAKING COULD LEAD TO A CRASH.

Sample 2004 FORD F-150 Owner Complaints (TIRES)

ODI #10584568 • Incident Date: 11/22/2013
ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 2013 WHILE DRIVING TO WORK ON THE FREEWAY, I FELT SEVERAL "THUMPS" PRIOR TO THE REAR LEFT TIRE ON MY F-150 BLOW. THERE WAS NO LOAD IN THE TRUCK NOR WAS I TOWING. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GET ONTO THE SHOULDER. AAA RESPONDED AND ATTEMPTED TO CHANGE THE TIRE. HE WAS UNABLE, AS SOME OF THE TIRE TREAD WAS WRAPPED AROUND THE AXLE. WE ALSO OBSERVED THE PARKING BRAKE CABLE BROKEN. A TOW TRUCK WAS THEN DISPATCHED TO MOVE MY F-150 TO A GARAGE. DAMAGE NOTED TO THE TRUCK WAS A SNAPPED PARKING BRAKE CABLE AND A KINKED HYDRAULIC LINE. I AUTHORIZED THE GARAGE TO REPAIR THE BRAKE SYSTEM AND GET MY TRUCK BACK ON THE ROAD. BY THE TIME THEY WERE ABLE TO GATHER THE REPAIR PARTS, IT WAS THE FOLLOWING WEDNESDAY (DAY BEFORE THANKSGIVING) WHEN I ABLE TO GET IT BACK. FIRST THING I NOTICED WAS THE BROKEN TRAILER ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR ON THE BUMPER. DISCUSSIONS WITH THE TOW COMPANY AND THE GARAGE DETERMINED THAT THE DAMAGE WAS CAUSED BY FLYING RUBBER. THAT WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON I TOOK THE TRUCK TO DISCOUNT TIRE TO HAVE THE DAMAGED TIRE REPLACED UNDER THE ROAD HAZARD WARRANTY I HAD PURCHASED FROM THEM. EXAMINATION OF THE REMAINING THREE LTX M/S TIRES REVEALED ANOTHER TIRE WITH A DELAMINATION BULGE. DISCOUNT REPLACED TWO OF THE TIRES UNDER THE WARRANTY WITH LTX M/S2?S, AND I PURCHASED TWO MORE. I DID NOT WANT TO TAKE ANY MORE RISKS WITH THE REMAINING LTX M/S'S. *TR

WHILE DRIVING THE TRUCK BEGAN VIBRATING, PULLED OVER TO SEE IF THE TIRES WERE THE ISSUE. NOTHING APPEARED TO BE WRONG, TIRE PRESSURE WAS FINE AND NO WEIGHTS HAD FALLEN OFF. AT TIMES THE VIBRATION WAS VIOLENT, SHAKING THE WHOLE TRUCK. DROVE ANOTHER 10 MILES WITHOUT ANY ISSUES AND THE VIBRATION WOULD START AGAIN, LOOKED ON LINE AND THERE WERE SEVERAL POSTS IDENTIFYING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH OTHER FORD TRUCKS. *TR
